Several years ago I read a book at the library: Gardening with Less Water: Low-Tech, Low-Cost Techniques; Use up to 90% Less Water in Your Garden. I really liked the idea– buried clay pot which holds 1.25 gallon water to provide water for several days so I don’t have to water my vegetable garden daily or even twice daily. Immediately, I bought 2 Olla pots on Amazon and it worked great. The only problem is it’s too expensive to cover all my raised beds.

So, I started to search “DIY Olla pots” online. There are a lot of tutorials out there teaching people how to seal two terracotta pots together for Olla pots but I think it’s far too much trouble. It would be great if there are terracotta pots without holes. Finally, I found them at Hobby Lobby. Go to HobbyLobby.com and search for “Terra Cotta Long Stem Flower Pot”. It’s really easy to install the clay pots in the raised bed before anything is planted. Just dig a hole and lower the pot underground. Place them 3′-4′ apart, fill with water when they are dry and cover them with a take out container cap or chipped plate. They’ll save you a lot of time watering plants.

The bigger pot is a “compost and feed” container to compost food wastes and attracts earthworms.
