Lettuce Seeds – Summer 38 Celtuce. Heirloom, Non-GMO. Lactuca sativavar asparagina. 75-85 days. Cool season annual. This variety of Chinese stem lettuce has pointed, light green leaves. Good tolerance to heat and cold and is slow bolting. This celtuce can tolerate 100°F for a few days and slow bolting.
This variety has nice stem development during warm season. Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. In cool areas sow seeds in spring after last frost or late summer to early fall in a sunny location. Recommended to sow in seed trays in cool areas, and seedlings are transplanted later into open field. In temperate areas, sow in spring or fall. In tropical areas, sow year round. Seeds need light to germinate, so do not plant too deep. Keep soil moist. Fertilize as needed. Use the young leaves in salad or cook lightly. Stalks are eaten fresh or cooked. Peel outer skin and slice the stalk. Use in salad, pickled, soup and stir fry with meat, poultry or fish.
As the name implies, this Chinese vegetables variety can be sown in most locations from about March through August. Does well in both hot and cooler locations. Good tolerance to heat and cold and is slow bolting.
Vegetable seeds grown in Canada. In temperate areas, sow in spring or fall. In tropical areas, sow year round.
Non-GMO seeds. High germination rate vegetable seeds. Germination rate: 99%. Test date: 08/01/2021.
Celtuce is grown in a similar manner as head lettuce. Sow seed 3-4 weeks before transplanting outdoors in flats or cell-type containers 1/8″ deep, about 1/4″ apart. Transplant 8-12″ apart in rows 12-18″ apart. The seeds will germinate even at low, 40°F (4°C) soil temperature, but poorly above 75°F (24°C).
Direct sow seeds about 1″ apart in rows 12-18″ apart or sow in clusters of 3-4 seeds every 8″. Cover seeds lightly, about 1/8″, firm soil gently, and keep surface moist until emergence in 3-5 days (or longer in cold weather). Thin to 8″ apart.
