How to Make a Braided Headband – Perfect Colors for Spring

I wanted to design a headband for my daughter.  My daughter is young and very particular on what she puts in her hair, her main concern is comfort.  So I knew that the headband had to be comfortable especially behind her ears.  I spent a lot of time designing it so that the ends of the headband with tucked into each other and there was no sharp edges.

Materials Needed:
Unfinished Plastic Headband (any size)
3 colors of 3/8″ wide grosgrain ribbon
Hot Glue Gun
Lighter

Instructions:

1. Cut about 1yd of each of the three strips of ribbon.
2. Seal the ends of the ribbon with a lighter, gently running the blue part of the flame against the tip of the ribbon.

3. Hot glue the three ends of the ribbon together.

4. Hot glue the ends of the ribbon to the inside of the headband.

5. Bring the ribbon to the front of the headband and braid once.

6. Bring the left then the right ribbon across the inside of the headband and around to the front. (Notice the purple is now on the left and the green is now on the right.)

7. Continue to braid the front and then cross the side ribbons on the inside of the headband and back to the front again for another braid.

8. To finish the headband bring the side pieces across the back, hot glue the top front strand to the headband, and hot glue the two underneath strands to the headband on the inside.

9. Trim away the excess ribbon leaving just a little bit, seal the ends of the ribbon with a lighter.

10. Hot glue the side pieces one on top of the other to the front, bring the front (green strand) piece around to the back tuck it under the other ribbon and hot glue in place.
