Step 1: Prepare Ribbon

Which width ribbon needed for making hairbow? The length of the ribbon?

You can use any width ribbon to make hairbow. Use different width+length combination, you will make different style bow. They all look pretty.

Basicly, the length of the ribbon=

4x(width of the bow+standup_parameter)+2 x tail

Width of the bow:

3/8″ ribbon is better for 2″ bow.

7/8″ ribbon is better for 2″- 4″ bow.

1.5″ ribbon is better for 2.5″-5″ bow.

tail:

2″-3″ bow uses 1″ tail

4″ and up uses 2″ tail

Standup parameter

The shorter the ribbon, the flatter the bow. If you want those loops ‘stand up’, use larger ‘standup parameter’. It’s from 0.25″ to 2″.

So, if you want to use 1.5″ ribbon to make a 4″ wide bow and want the loops ‘stand up’, try this:

4x(4+1.5)+2×2=26″.

Cut 26″ ribbon and heat seal the ends (using lighter or wood burning tool). Follow the steps below.
